Setting up a social area in Reading

I needed a fitted bar after hosting a gathering where we ran out space. I decided to search near Forbury Gardens.

I stumbled upon the site while browsing and emailed photos. Central Bedroom and Kitchens responded with a quote that seemed fair for the job.

The process of organising this project was actually quite involved. I spent many hours thinking on the configuration of the room before even picking up the phone. My lounge area has constantly felt a bit unfinished, and having a dedicated area for drinks felt like the perfect solution to that problem. I remember standing in my kitchen staring at a cluttered surface filled with glassware and realising that something had to shift. The initial interaction with the team was extremely simple, which provided me confidence. We talked different aesthetics, from modern minimalist looks to more traditional and wooden textures. I was really impressed by how many detail they wanted regarding the dimensions and the existing decor of my home. It felt like they genuinely wanted the final product to match seamlessly with the balance of the building. I provided multiple angles in the images I uploaded, making sure every nook was visible. They clarified that the custom type of the unit signified that precision was absolutely paramount to avoid any issues throughout the fitting. We moved forth and forth on possible materials, searching at samples of laminate and various types of wood patterns. It is amazing how many thought goes into selecting the correct hardware, like knobs and copyrights, which could completely change the feel of the entire build. I needed a space where I might comfortably mix drinks for friends without needing to repeatedly dash back to the pantry for lemons or tools. The convenience of having everything in a single place was the main reason for this investment. We finalised the blueprint after a short consultation where all my concerns about plumbing and electric sockets were addressed. I appreciated that they didn't hurry the planning stage, taking the effort to ensure that the depth of the racks was enough for my tallest glassware. It seemed like a joint process instead than a simple transaction, which is hard to locate nowadays.

The fitting day came faster than anticipated, and the fitter was punctual and ready. He began by placing down protective covers to ensure my flooring remained clean. Watching the parts being unpacked was interesting, as the standard of the wood was immediately obvious. He meticulously checked the alignment of the walls before attaching the base structure of the unit. I watched as the skeleton slowly took form, transforming a plain corner into a functional piece. The degree of craftsmanship involved in fitting the boards to the uneven surfaces of my period home was impressive. He explained how each piece fitted together to provide total stability. We spent a little time choosing on the exact height for the built-in cooler, making sure it was accessible to open but hidden back from direct sight. The installation of the counter was the most rewarding moment of the entire process. Seeing the polished top at last sitting on the cabinets helped the vision come to life. He then fitted the mirrored backing, which instantly made the room to feel double the breadth. The lighting were wired afterward, and checking them for the first time was a thrill. The warm glow below the racks showcased the glassware beautifully. I could visualise exactly how handy this would be during night parties. The worker was highly careful, taking the effort to clean down every surface and clear any dust created during the drilling. He additionally demonstrated me the way to move the racks should I ever wanted to store bigger pieces. The attention to detail was truly exceptional, straight down to the silicone lines along the edges. It was obvious that he took great satisfaction in his craft, which is consistently good to witness. We did a final walkthrough of the completed installation to ensure everything was to standard. I observed that one knob was a bit wobbly, and he fixed it straight away with a quick twist of a screwdriver. This thoroughness was just what I was looking for when I booked the job.

The finished bar appears absolutely amazing and has become the main feature of my downstairs. It provides a sophisticated vibe that was formerly lacking from my living room. The capacity is immense, enabling me to organise all my liquors, mixers, and specialist glasses in one unified unit. No longer do I have to search through cramped cupboard cabinets to find a bottle opener or a certain kind of glass. Everything has its proper place, which makes entertaining much much simpler and relaxing. I enjoy the way the finishes catch the light in the evenings, creating a warm atmosphere. My friends have now complimented the setup multiple occasions, with some even asking for the contact of the people who made it. It really seems like a custom extra made specifically for my lifestyle. The height of the surface is ideal for standing by with a glass, and the integrated LED units provide just the right amount of glow without being overpowering. Even when not in operation, it serves as a lovely piece of furniture that elevates the whole look of the property. I spent some time placing my collection on the shelves to create a visual arrangement. The glass panels truly assist in displaying the bottles and giving depth to the tight space. It has encouraged me to experiment creating different drinks that I previously thought were too fussy to attempt in a standard setting. Having the tap close would have been good, but the area limits resulted in we decided without it to save cabinet space. This was a deliberate decision we made at the design phase, and I certainly not rue it. The extra cupboard room for napkins and tools is much more useful to me in the long period.

There were a couple of small drawbacks that are worth noting for a balanced perspective. The wait time for the custom doors was a bit longer than I initially wanted. It took about six days from the first deposit to the actual fitting date. While this is expected for high-quality furniture, it required a some of waiting on my part. I had wanted to have it ready for a specific event, but we passed that date by a few days. However, the communication from the office regarding the delay were regular, so I was never kept in the unknowing. I rather hold a little longer for a result that is built to last than receive a hasty work that breaks after a couple years. The initial cost quote was also slightly less than the total invoice, mostly because I decided to upgrade the handles and add more inside lights midway through the process. These adjustments were entirely my choice, and the company was extremely clear about the extra fees involved. Another small point was the volume of boxes left after the fitting. Although the technician tidied up the work site perfectly, there was a significant amount of cardboard to dispose of in my recycling. It wasn't a huge problem, but a thing to keep in mind if you have limited bin space. Despite these small points, the total journey was very positive. The standard of the fit is far superior to anything I might have bought off-the-shelf. It seems solid and durable, and I am sure it will withstand decades of use. I feel the value it has given to my home far exceeds the upfront outlay. It has changed the way I use my living space, rendering it much more inviting. I no anymore sense cluttered when friends come over.

Reflecting back on the entire project, I am truly glad I opted ahead with it. The initial spark came from a visit to a neighbour's place in Oxford, where they had a comparable setup. I saw then how much it enhanced the movement of the evening. When I returned to Reading, I began researching nearby options and discovered that going with a specialist outfit was the only way to achieve the exact style I desired. The ability to pick each detail, from the colour of the stain to the position of the power outlets, ensured the end result was exactly as I pictured. I also had a tiny secret compartment included for storing expensive tools like silver stirrers. This kind of customisation is what makes the service unique. It didn't seem like a mass-produced item being fitted into a room where it did not belong. Instead, it looks like it has always been a part of the architecture. If you are thinking about a like-minded home improvement, my advice would be to be calm and invest the effort on the planning part. It is much better to alter a sketch than it is to fix a cabinet once it is built. The knowledge provided during the start was invaluable in preventing me from doing simple mistakes, such as placing the fridge too close fitted bar to a heat source. These small bits of advice are what you buy for when you choose experienced experts. I am now planning at different areas of my house to see where else I might add built-in solutions. The outcome of this fitted project has given me the confidence to tackle a larger task in the kitchen next year. It is a wonderful addition to my daily routine, and I look ahead to many seasons of using it with family and pals. Finding the proper mix between looks and function was the aim, and I think we achieved it completely. The process from a cluttered alcove to a stylish social hub was well deserving the effort and investment spent. I today have a home that I am truly happy to share with to others. Reading has many great places to go for a cocktail, but truthfully, I now prefer staying at my place and enjoying my own personal bar. It offers the identical feel without the noise or the commute. That itself is worth the whole undertaking. I am very pleased with how the lighting functions in the evening, creating a chill space to relax after a busy shift at the office. It is the little treats like this that make home living much pleasant and fulfilling. I really appreciate the workmanship that was put into the finished result. The manner the doors close with a soft thud tells plenty about the construction quality. No detail was ignored, and the final appearance is exactly what I hoped it would be when I first began this process. It is a credit to the talent of the team and the standard of the materials utilised. I am a truly happy client.
